You will always be better off to do it in double brick for strength if it is over 21.5 metres square. DO NOT worry so much about the brick factor until you have sorted the drainage factor. If it is going to be build on soil ground you will only ave to lightly seal the inside, ALTHOUGH if it is going to be built on either pavers or concrete you will need to have holes in the bottom bricks to let the water out. The easiest way to do this is to have the the occasional layer of the bottom bricks MUD gouged out halfway up the brick and through both courses and excess water can flow out easily.
Building brick flower box 2.5ft tall, must it be a double brick construction,is single brick be strong enough?
Dimensions factor in to this.
If it is 20%26#039;x6%26#039;x2.5%26#039;,,,[WxLxH] then no, it might not be.
If the Bricks are Interlocking is another factor.
What type of soil, how much water.
How long do you wish it to stand?
If 4%26#039;x2%26#039;x2.5%26#039; yes, single will work. for 2 years or so.
Reply:I%26#039;m told a double because a single will not hold up ( my hubby a union masonry for 35yrs one of the best, trust me on this one) Let me know if you need anymore help he said he%26#039;ll try to help!!!make up
